The akabuq is the first venture into the book-making process for akamundo. Again we find the themes of individual units combining to create a greater whole. In this case, the pages are the units, each personalized by a message or text which combine to create the final product. The original akabuq concept was developed as a commemorative piece for a 70th birthday. Messages, thoughts, and pictures where solicited from family and friends and then translated into a custom format, giving emphasis to important words and phrases. The akabuq transcends traditional book format by becoming an object of aesthetic value as well as an information storage device.
